Celebrating Northamptonshire Day at the Houses of Parliament

The work of the Active Quarter partnership was proudly shared in Westminster by representatives from the University of Northampton, as part of the celebrations for Northamptonshire Day 2025.
Local businesses, community leaders and organisations gathered in Portcullis House to celebrate the county and highlight Northamptonshire’s shared commitment to improving local life.
Associate Professor Declan Ryan (University of Northampton) represented the Active Quarter partnership – and spoke about how this work is helping to create more accessible and inclusive outdoor spaces across the town.
”It was brilliant to showcase how Northampton’s Active Quarter partnership is creating changes locally to deliver on the local and national government priority of equitable access to greenspace. The partnership is a great example of how university involvement can provide evidence and insight to support partners’ decision-making and secure external funding.

The partnership brings together local authorities, community organisations, researchers and landowners to better understand how outdoor spaces affect wellbeing – and to make it easier for more people to enjoy them.
The event was attended by fourteen Members of Parliament and invited guests from across the county. Northampton South MP Mike Reader reflected on the pride he feels for the region – “from our amazing heritage and culture through to the innovation and businesses driving growth, creating jobs and opportunities.”
The event was a fantastic opportunity for more people to learn about the Active Quarter partnership, as well as all the other fantastic work taking place in the region – at the University of Northampton and beyond.
